Palin Communications Account Directors Anastasiia Nazarenko and Tina Kandelaki have teamed up to win the coveted #CairnsHatchlings competition at Cairns Crocodiles 2026.

The team was given 24 hours to respond to a real-life brief from the United Nations Foundation. They received the brief on Tuesday 12th May and presented their proposal to the judges the next day. The awards ceremony was held on the evening of Thursday 14th May.

The brief asked how the subscription economy might be redirected toward human survival. If a monthly commitment can change lives, how might we move people from passive awareness to active giving?

Ana and Tina posed a simple question in response:  What if humanity was the default?

This concept of ‘Default Humanity’ flipped the subscription economy on its head,  with an idea about popular platforms choosing to automatically add a $1 contribution to users’ next subscription payment to Humanity+, unless they actively choose to opt out.

According to the Chairman of the judging panel, Chris Savage: “Ana and Tina presented a brilliant strategy and creative platform that was insightful, validated and compelling. They shone through despite very talented and tough competition.”
Ana Nazarenko says they were both largely running on adrenalin in responding to the brief. “We had very little sleep but what kept us going was how invested we became in the brief. We also felt the Palin team behind us the whole way and that support kept us energised and motivated. We wanted to give it everything, because the potential impact reaches far beyond the competition and into the lives of people around the world.”
According to Tina Kandelaki it was an opportunity to turn creativity into action. “For us it was an opportunity to develop a creative concept that could genuinely support the United Nations Foundation in creating positive change for the future. We gave it our all and were thrilled to take home the win in the PR category.”

Palin Communications Managing Director Martin Palin says the success of the Palin team demonstrates its creative capabilities.

“It shows that the health PR talent at Palin Communications can compete with anyone when it comes to strategic development and creative ideas. I’m enormously proud of Ana and Tina in winning this award.” said Palin.

The Cairns Hatchlings competition is part of Cairns Crocodiles, Asia-Pacific's leading creativity festival for advertising, marketing and media professionals. The competition brings together international talent from across the APAC region, challenging finalists to respond to a live brief, this year from the United Nations Foundation, and pitch their ideas to an industry judging panel within 24 hours
